Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo · Douro, Portugal · 750 ml
An expert physically inspected this bottle before approving the listing.
Aeternus sits at the pinnacle of Quinta Nova’s portfolio. Created as a tribute to Américo Amorim, it comes from a remarkable 2.5-hectare century-old vineyard planted on schist terraces at Quinta Nova in the Douro. Yields are exceptionally low, around 0.4 kg per vine, contributing to the wine’s concentration and rarity. The 2019 is produced from indigenous Douro varieties planted together in the century-old vineyard. Production was just 3,800 bottles, making this a genuinely limited release. It was vinified under winemakers Jorge Alves and Sónia Pereira and matured for 12 months in new French-oak barrels. The wine is powerful yet polished, displaying blue and dark fruits, balsamic notes, cedar, spice and the mineral character of Douro schist. A firm structure is balanced by a silky texture and considerable depth, leading to an exceptionally long, dense and precise finish. Critically, the 2019 performed extremely well: 93+ points from Robert Parker/Wine Advocate, 19.5/20 from Paixão pelo Vinho, and 18.5/20 from Revista de Vinhos.

André Bicho
Raised in Portugal and educated in the United States, André has spent two decades moving between cultures, languages and cellars. His passion for fine wine and spirits began with the great Ports and table wines of his home country and grew into a wider fascination with the craft, history and provenance behind every great bottle. When he isn’t tasting or sourcing, he can be found driving the back roads of Europe in search of small producers and the stories behind their labels.
