Brora 1982 – A Rare Survivor from the Final Years of a Legendary Distillery An exceptionally scarce early independent bottling from Brora, one of the most revered names in collectible Scotch whisky. Distilled on 18 March 1982, this single malt was produced during the final chapter of Brora’s original history, shortly before the Highland distillery ceased production in 1983. After 13 years of maturation, the whisky was selected from Cask No. 430 and bottled by independent bottler Blackadder International in November 1995, at 43% ABV. This is significant not simply as an old Brora, but as an early Blackadder bottling released years before Brora developed the extraordinary international collector following it enjoys today. Specialist records identify this exact 1982/1995, Cask #430 release. Brora’s reputation was built on a distinctive Highland character capable of combining waxiness, minerality, coastal character and varying degrees of smoke. Bottlings from the original distillery have subsequently become highly sought after, particularly examples distilled before its 1983 closure. The original label itself captures Brora at a fascinating moment in history, explaining that the distillery had closed in May 1983 and describing the whisky as possessing an earthy peatiness with a long, tangy and mouth-filling finish.
