Casa Ferreirinha · Douro, Portugal · 1.5 L Magnum
An expert physically inspected this bottle before approving the listing.
One of the most prestigious and collectible wines ever produced in Portugal, Barca Velha represents the pinnacle of Casa Ferreirinha and is only declared in vintages considered truly exceptional. The 2011 is the 20th declared edition of Barca Velha since its creation in 1952. It was produced under winemaker Luís Sottomayor from classic Douro varieties including Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinto Cão. The vintage is renowned for its concentration, structure, freshness and exceptional ageing potential. This is the particularly desirable 1.5-litre Magnum, a format produced in much smaller quantities than the standard bottle. The rear label states that only 2,830 Magnums were produced, compared with 30,936 standard 750 ml bottles. The bottle is presented with its original wooden case and retains its capsule and Sogrape authenticity-verification seal. The photographs show the bottle, labels and presentation case in excellent visual condition.

André Bicho
Raised in Portugal and educated in the United States, André has spent two decades moving between cultures, languages and cellars. His passion for fine wine and spirits began with the great Ports and table wines of his home country and grew into a wider fascination with the craft, history and provenance behind every great bottle. When he isn’t tasting or sourcing, he can be found driving the back roads of Europe in search of small producers and the stories behind their labels.
