Casa Ferreirinha · Douro, Portugal · 750 ml
An expert physically inspected this bottle before approving the listing.
One of the defining wines of Portugal and a benchmark of the Douro. Barca Velha 1995 is a rare declared vintage of Casa Ferreirinha’s legendary red wine, a label whose history stretches back to the pioneering work that established the possibility of producing world-class, long-lived dry wines in the Douro. The Barca Velha name is reserved for wines selected for exceptional quality, structure and ageing potential. Following years of maturation and evaluation, only wines considered worthy of the house’s highest standard are released under this celebrated label. The 1995 vintage combines the power and concentration of the Douro with the elegance, freshness and remarkable longevity that have made Barca Velha one of Portugal’s most sought-after collector wines. With maturity, the wine can develop complex layers of dark and dried fruit, cedar, tobacco, leather, spice, balsamic notes and forest-floor character. Now over 30 years from harvest, this is an increasingly scarce example of an important Barca Velha vintage and a superb addition to a serious Portuguese wine collection. This particular bottle presents exceptionally well for its age, retaining its original capsule, 1995 vintage neck label, front and rear labels and numbered Casa do Douro certification seal.

André Bicho
Raised in Portugal and educated in the United States, André has spent two decades moving between cultures, languages and cellars. His passion for fine wine and spirits began with the great Ports and table wines of his home country and grew into a wider fascination with the craft, history and provenance behind every great bottle. When he isn’t tasting or sourcing, he can be found driving the back roads of Europe in search of small producers and the stories behind their labels.
