Casa Ferreirinha · Douro, Portugal · 750 ml
An expert physically inspected this bottle before approving the listing.
Casa Ferreirinha is one of the most historically important names in Portuguese wine, closely associated with Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira — “Ferreirinha.” The house later became famous for producing Barca Velha and for establishing the Douro’s reputation for serious, age-worthy dry red wines. Callabriga was positioned as a serious premium Douro red, below the house’s very top wines but considerably above its everyday range. The 2000 is now a mature, increasingly difficult vintage to encounter in good condition. The wine was produced from classic Douro varieties, with Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz. Its profile combines dark and red fruit with developed notes of cedar, tobacco, leather, cocoa, cinnamon, vanilla and spice. With more than 25 years of bottle age, well-stored examples can show additional tertiary characteristics such as dried fruit, forest floor and mature savoury notes. The 2000 currently carries a strong 4.4/5 vintage rating on Vivino.

André Bicho
Raised in Portugal and educated in the United States, André has spent two decades moving between cultures, languages and cellars. His passion for fine wine and spirits began with the great Ports and table wines of his home country and grew into a wider fascination with the craft, history and provenance behind every great bottle. When he isn’t tasting or sourcing, he can be found driving the back roads of Europe in search of small producers and the stories behind their labels.
