Casa Ferreirinha · Douro, Portugal · 750 ml
An expert physically inspected this bottle before approving the listing.
A rare three-bottle presentation of one of Casa Ferreirinha’s most fascinating experimental Douro releases, Tinta Francisca 2015 was created to showcase the character of an historic and relatively obscure grape variety traditionally associated with the Douro. Produced entirely from 100% Tinta Francisca, the wine was made from hand-harvested grapes, individually selected both in the vineyard and on arrival at the winery. Following fermentation and a long, gentle maceration, it matured for approximately 24 months in used French-oak barrels, preserving the elegance and distinctive personality of the variety. Production was exceptionally limited to just 3,660 bottles, making this 2015 release particularly interesting for collectors of Casa Ferreirinha and rare Portuguese wines. The producer describes an evolved ruby colour and a complex aromatic profile of truffle, forest floor, pepper and ginger, complemented by liquorice, mineral nuances and beautifully integrated oak. The palate combines good volume with rounded tannins, lively acidity, spice and an exceptionally elegant finish.

André Bicho
Raised in Portugal and educated in the United States, André has spent two decades moving between cultures, languages and cellars. His passion for fine wine and spirits began with the great Ports and table wines of his home country and grew into a wider fascination with the craft, history and provenance behind every great bottle. When he isn’t tasting or sourcing, he can be found driving the back roads of Europe in search of small producers and the stories behind their labels.
