Dez Tostões Grande Reserva 2021 is a premium Alentejo red from Herdade da Maroteira, an historic 540-hectare estate situated at the foot of the Serra d’Ossa, north of Évora. The property has remained in the same Anglo-Portuguese family for five generations, tracing its history to the 19th century, when Robert Reynolds invested in the Alentejo cork forests to supply the Port wine industry. Around 2000, Philip Mollet transformed the estate’s direction by establishing vineyards and developing Maroteira into a serious wine-producing property. The 2021 Grande Reserva is a powerful expression of Alicante Bouschet, one of the varieties most closely associated with great Alentejo reds. Current specialist listings identify it as 100% Alicante Bouschet, with 15.5% alcohol. Produced from carefully selected grapes, the wine shows a deep concentrated ruby colour, with an intense aromatic profile of dark forest fruits and spices. On the palate it is full-bodied, warm and richly flavoured, with substantial tannins balanced by freshness and elegance. The wine undergoes natural and spontaneous alcoholic and malolactic fermentation, with extended skin contact of more than 20 days, followed by approximately six months in French and American oak.

André Bicho
Raised in Portugal and educated in the United States, André has spent two decades moving between cultures, languages and cellars. His passion for fine wine and spirits began with the great Ports and table wines of his home country and grew into a wider fascination with the craft, history and provenance behind every great bottle. When he isn’t tasting or sourcing, he can be found driving the back roads of Europe in search of small producers and the stories behind their labels.
