James Martin’s Fine & Rare 20 Years Old is a rare surviving example of premium blended Scotch from a whisky name with roots in 19th-century Leith, Scotland. This vintage bottling represents the prestigious 20 Year Old expression of James Martin’s Fine & Rare, created from a limited selection of mature Scotch whisky stocks laid down for at least two decades. Contemporary examples describe the whisky as having been blended and bottled by James Martin & Co. Ltd. in Leith, Scotland. Specialist whisky-auction records classify the expression as a 20-year-old blended Scotch matured in oak and bottled at 43% ABV. This particular 75cl export bottling is especially attractive to collectors because it retains its historic Italian fiscal strip, providing physical evidence of its original export market and considerable age. The bottle is accompanied by its original red-and-gold James Martin’s Fine & Rare 20 Years Old presentation box, another increasingly difficult component to find with surviving vintage bottles. Unlike modern releases, these early James Martin’s bottlings belong to a discontinued era of Scotch whisky production and packaging. Recent auction activity demonstrates growing collector interest, with comparable vintage 20 Year Old examples regularly appearing in specialist whisky sales.

Raised in Portugal and educated in the United States, André has spent two decades moving between cultures, languages and cellars. His passion for fine wine and spirits began with the great Ports and table wines of his home country and grew into a wider fascination with the craft, history and provenance behind every great bottle. When he isn’t tasting or sourcing, he can be found driving the back roads of Europe in search of small producers and the stories behind their labels.
