Quinta do Vallado · Douro, Portugal · 750 ml
An expert physically inspected this bottle before approving the listing.
A rare flagship Douro red from one of Portugal’s most historic estates. Quinta do Vallado Adelaide 2014 is an exceptional, extremely limited-production Douro DOC red created as a tribute to D. Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, one of the defining figures in the history of the Douro. Produced from an extraordinary old-vine field blend, with vines dating to around 1940, Adelaide brings together numerous traditional Douro grape varieties. Following vinification, the wine was matured for approximately 20 months in new 225-litre French oak barrels, creating a powerful yet highly refined expression of the Douro. The 2014 vintage displays remarkable concentration and structure, combining ripe dark fruit with floral nuances, spice, minerality and beautifully integrated oak. Its depth is balanced by freshness and fine tannins, leading to a persistent, sophisticated finish. Built for long ageing, the estate indicates an ageing potential of approximately 20–30 years. Production was exceptionally small: only 3,700 bottles of 75cl and 200 magnums were produced, adding considerably to its desirability among collectors of fine Portuguese wine. Presented here with its original Quinta do Vallado wooden presentation case, this is a superb collector’s example of one of the estate’s most prestigious wines.

André Bicho
Raised in Portugal and educated in the United States, André has spent two decades moving between cultures, languages and cellars. His passion for fine wine and spirits began with the great Ports and table wines of his home country and grew into a wider fascination with the craft, history and provenance behind every great bottle. When he isn’t tasting or sourcing, he can be found driving the back roads of Europe in search of small producers and the stories behind their labels.
