An expert physically inspected this bottle before approving the listing.
An elegant mature release of Tapada de Coelheiros, one of the historic premium reds of the Alentejo, presented here as a particularly complete collector’s set with its original wooden presentation case, producer material, branded accessory and Coutale sommelier corkscrew. Produced at Herdade de Coelheiros in Igrejinha, Arraiolos, Tapada de Coelheiros has deep roots in the region. The estate planted varieties including Cabernet Sauvignon during an innovative period for Alentejo viticulture, and the first Tapada de Coelheiros red was released in 1991. Its distinctive label pays tribute to the celebrated traditional Arraiolos tapestry and embroidery of the surrounding area. The 2016 vintage is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Alicante Bouschet, sourced from the Leonilde and Sobreira vineyards. The producer itself identifies these two varieties as the composition of Tapada de Coelheiros 2016. It is a concentrated, characterful Alentejo red showing ripe cherry and dark fruit alongside coffee, tobacco, balsamic notes, eucalyptus, spice and a subtle menthol character. The palate combines substantial structure with freshness, fine-grained tannins and a long, expressive finish. The quality of the vintage has been recognised by Portuguese wine critics. Grandes Escolhas awarded the 2016 18/20, highlighting its freshness, solid structure, vigorous tannins and long menthol finish.

André Bicho
Raised in Portugal and educated in the United States, André has spent two decades moving between cultures, languages and cellars. His passion for fine wine and spirits began with the great Ports and table wines of his home country and grew into a wider fascination with the craft, history and provenance behind every great bottle. When he isn’t tasting or sourcing, he can be found driving the back roads of Europe in search of small producers and the stories behind their labels.
