An exceptional release from one of the most historic names in Port, Taylor’s Golden Age 50 Year Old Very Old Tawny Port is a limited-production collector’s edition created from a selection of rare Ports matured for five decades in seasoned oak casks in Taylor’s cellars. Taylor’s, founded in 1692, introduced Golden Age in 2022 as its first 50-Year-Old Tawny. The component wines originate from the eastern reaches of Portugal’s Douro Valley, an area historically associated with some of the region’s most long-lived wines. After approximately half a century of oxidative maturation in wood, the individual wines were carefully blended to achieve remarkable complexity, balance and finesse. The wine displays a deep chestnut-copper colour with golden highlights. Its complex aromatic profile combines raisins, clove, nutmeg and black pepper, developing into layers of prune, quince, apricot, citrus peel, toasted coconut, almonds and butterscotch. The palate is rich and enveloping yet retains the freshness and acidity characteristic of the finest mature Tawny Ports, leading to an exceptionally persistent finish. Critically acclaimed, Taylor’s reports 97 points from James Suckling, where it was included among his Top 100 Wines of Portugal 2023.

André Bicho
Raised in Portugal and educated in the United States, André has spent two decades moving between cultures, languages and cellars. His passion for fine wine and spirits began with the great Ports and table wines of his home country and grew into a wider fascination with the craft, history and provenance behind every great bottle. When he isn’t tasting or sourcing, he can be found driving the back roads of Europe in search of small producers and the stories behind their labels.
