Legado 2015 by Sogrape – Century-Old Vines – Only 4,666 Bottles Produced – Douro DOC

Legado 2015 is one of the rarest and most prestigious wines produced by Sogrape—a deeply personal Douro wine conceived by Fernando Guedes as a testament to the knowledge, experience and values passed from one generation of the Guedes family to the next. Its name, Legado — “Legacy”, expresses exactly what the wine represents. Sogrape describes it as a tribute to Fernando Guedes and to the transmission of stories, principles and knowledge through future generations. The wine originates from approximately eight hectares of century-old vines at Quinta do Caêdo, in Ervedosa do Douro. These ancient mixed vineyards contain traditional Douro varieties including Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Tinta da Barca, Rufete, Tinta Amarela, Donzelinho and other old indigenous varieties. The warm 2015 vintage produced a particularly powerful and structured expression of Legado. Under winemaker Luís Sottomayor, the wine was vinified at Quinta da Leda in the Douro Superior and subsequently matured for 30 months in new French oak barrels. Sogrape describes the result as robust and full-bodied, with intense colour, excellent structure and volume while preserving the elegance and distinctive character of the old-vine Quinta do Caêdo terroir. Production was extraordinarily small: just 4,666 bottles were made. The wine shows great aromatic complexity, combining red fruits with balsamic and resinous notes, hints of mint, liquorice, pepper and ginger, together with mineral nuances and beautifully integrated oak. The palate is concentrated and structured yet elegant, with freshness, fine tannins and a long, complex finish.
