Quinta do Vale Meão 2003 – 95 Points Wine Spectator – Historic Douro Flagship – 75cl

Quinta do Vale Meão 2003 is an early vintage of one of Portugal’s most prestigious and collectible dry red wines, produced at the historic Quinta do Vale Meão estate in the Douro Superior. The estate was created in the late 19th century by the legendary Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira — “Ferreirinha” — and later became an important part of the history of great Douro table wine. Today, Quinta do Vale Meão is recognized as one of the reference estates of the region. The 2003 vintage was produced from 60% Touriga Nacional, 20% Touriga Franca, 15% Tinta Roriz and 5% Tinta Barroca, as stated on the original back label. It was made under the responsibility of Francisco de Olazabal and Nicolau de Almeida. The vintage received significant international recognition, including 94/100 from Wine Enthusiast; specialist market references also report 93/100 Robert Parker/Wine Advocate and 95/100 Wine Spectator. After more than two decades of bottle ageing, the 2003 represents an increasingly difficult-to-source early release of the estate’s flagship wine.
