A mature release of one of the Douro’s benchmark red wines from Casa Ferreirinha, the historic house behind Barca Velha. Produced at Quinta da Leda in the Douro Superior, the 2004 is a blend led by traditional Portuguese varieties including Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz. The wine was aged in French oak and built in the powerful, structured style for which Quinta da Leda has become renowned. The 2004 vintage is particularly interesting historically, marking the first production incorporating fruit from the estate’s newer vineyards once they had reached optimum maturity. Now more than two decades from harvest, this is an increasingly difficult vintage to encounter in original bottle.
