Casa Ferreirinha Barca-Velha 2015 – Three-Bottle Lot – Individually Numbered – 75cl An exceptional three-bottle lot of Barca-Velha 2015, the 21st declared vintage of one of Portugal’s most celebrated and collectible wines. Created by Fernando Nicolau de Almeida and first released with the legendary 1952 vintage, Barca-Velha is produced only when Casa Ferreirinha determines that a harvest possesses the exceptional structure, complexity and longevity required to carry the name. The 2015 became only the 21st vintage declared since 1952. Produced principally from vineyards at Quinta da Leda in the Douro Superior, the final blend comprises 43% Touriga Franca, 40% Touriga Nacional, 10% Sousão, 5% Tinto Cão and 2% Tinta Roriz, with maturation for approximately 18 months in oak. Winemaker Luís Sottomayor describes the 2015 as combining powerful structure with vibrant acidity and elegance. Sogrape describes aromas of black fruit, olive leaf, spice, pepper, balsamic notes, cedar and tobacco, followed by a powerful palate, lively tannins and an exceptionally long, elegant finish. Sogrape also highlights its extraordinary ageing potential. Production was exceptionally limited to only 16,567 bottles, making the 2015 substantially scarcer than many modern releases.
