One of the benchmark modern red wines of the Douro, Chryseia was created through the partnership between the Symington family and renowned Bordeaux winemaker Bruno Prats, formerly of Château Cos d’Estournel. The name Chryseia comes from the Greek translation of “Douro,” meaning “of gold”, reflecting a wine that combines the heritage and indigenous grape varieties of the Douro with a Bordeaux-influenced approach to precision and refinement. The 2019 Chryseia is composed of 65% Touriga Nacional and 35% Touriga Franca, sourced from Quinta de Roriz, Quinta da Perdiz and Vila Velha. This vintage received an outstanding 96 points from Wine Spectator and was selected for Wine Spectator’s Top 100 Wines of 2022. It also received 95 points from Wine & Spirits, which included it among its Top 100 Wines of 2022. A concentrated yet polished Douro red, showing black plum, blackberry, herbs, mineral/iron notes, liquorice and espresso, framed by silky tannins and a long, focused finish. Wine Spectator indicated a drinking window of 2024–2034.
