Casa Ferreirinha Reserva 1996 – Rare Magnum 1.5L – Douro DOC – Original Wooden Presentation Case

A rare large-format example of one of Casa Ferreirinha’s historic Douro reds, presented as a 1.5-litre Magnum of Reserva Ferreirinha 1996 with its wooden presentation case. Produced in the Douro Superior from a rigorous selection of Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Barroca, the wine was matured in new 225-litre French oak barrels for between 12 and 18 months, followed by extended bottle ageing before release — details confirmed directly by the original rear label. The Reserva occupies an important position in Casa Ferreirinha’s history, sitting immediately below the legendary Barca Velha. Contemporary sources describe the 1996 as a traditionally styled, structured Douro capable of long evolution. Wine Spectator awarded the vintage 91 points. Almost three decades after the vintage, surviving examples are increasingly scarce, and the Magnum format is considerably more unusual than the standard 75cl bottle. A Brazilian retailer’s archive specifically documents the Casa Ferreirinha Reserva 1996 in 1.5L format, confirming that this large-format release existed commercially. The bottle is accompanied by its period wooden presentation case, making this particularly attractive as a collector’s piece.
