A mature and increasingly difficult-to-find vintage of one of Ramos Pinto’s historic Douro reds. Duas Quintas Reserva 1999 was produced from a meticulous selection of grapes from two contrasting Ramos Pinto estates: Quinta de Ervamoira and Quinta dos Bons Ares. The blend is predominantly Touriga Nacional, representing approximately two-thirds of the wine, with Tinta Barroca completing the composition, exactly as stated on the original back label. Following malolactic fermentation, the wine matured for six months in new oak barrels before being bottled at Bons Ares and aged for a further two years in bottle prior to release. Contemporary tasting commentary described the 1999 as concentrated and ripe, with plum and berry fruit, herbal complexity and a slightly roasted character. Now approximately 27 years from vintage, this bottle represents an interesting piece of Ramos Pinto and Douro winemaking history.
