Casa Ferreirinha Reserva 1992 – Douro DOC – Rare Mature Vintage

A rare mature vintage of Casa Ferreirinha Reserva 1992, produced by one of the most historic and prestigious houses of Portugal’s Douro Valley. Casa Ferreirinha is inseparably linked to Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira and occupies a central position in the history of fine Douro wine. The house would later become internationally celebrated for Barca Velha, Portugal’s benchmark collectible red. The Reserva — subsequently known as Reserva Especial — represents one of Casa Ferreirinha’s most important wines and has historically occupied the position immediately below Barca Velha. The 1992 vintage, now more than three decades old, offers a rare opportunity to experience mature traditional Douro from an important period in the history of Casa Ferreirinha. A documented tasting of the 1992 describes red fruit, cedar, rockrose, wood, tobacco and delicate spice, with lively acidity, complexity, volume and a persistent finish. The winemaker is identified as José Maria Soares Franco, one of the major figures in modern Douro winemaking.
