A superb two-bottle collection from Herdade da Malhadinha Nova, bringing together the estate’s signature Malhadinha Tinto 2021 and Malhadinha Branco Biológico 2022. Located in Albernoa in Portugal’s Alentejo, Herdade da Malhadinha Nova has developed a distinctive identity combining estate-grown wines with the instantly recognizable labels inspired by drawings created by younger generations of the family. Malhadinha Tinto 2021 is the estate’s powerful flagship red. Produced from traditional Portuguese and international varieties and fermented in lagares, it underwent extended maturation in new French-oak barrels. The producer describes an expressive yet serious wine showing black and blue fruits, spice and subtle toasted notes, followed by a complex, rounded palate with mature polished tannins, considerable length and significant ageing potential. Malhadinha Branco Biológico 2022 is the estate’s organic white, produced from Arinto, Viosinho, Alvarinho, Viognier and Chardonnay. The original bottle label records fermentation and maturation in 500-litre French-oak barrels for 10 months. The estate describes a fresh and complex white with white-fleshed fruit, restrained oak, excellent balance and a long, persistent finish. The vintage remains listed by the producer at €35. Together, the two bottles provide an excellent representation of Malhadinha Nova’s premium red and white winemaking.
