Taylor’s Very Very Old Tawny Port — King Charles III Coronation Edition 2023 | 1 of Only 1,500 Bottles

I checked Taylor’s own records more deeply. This is an excellent Bottles lot. Created to commemorate the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III on 6 May 2023, this extraordinary Taylor’s Very Very Old Tawny Port represents one of the house’s most exclusive modern commemorative releases. Founded in 1692, Taylor’s had already existed through the reigns of fourteen British monarchs when Charles III became the 15th monarch to reign during the lifetime of the historic Port house. To mark the occasion, Taylor’s Head Winemaker David Guimaraens and his team selected wines from among the finest, oldest and rarest cask-aged Ports held in the company’s cellars in Porto. These exceptional reserves had undergone decades of maturation in oak, developing extraordinary concentration while retaining the freshness and vitality for which Taylor’s finest aged Tawnies are renowned. Taylor’s describes the resulting wine as displaying layers of cedar, balsamic notes, butterscotch, marzipan and vanilla, followed by nutmeg, clove and black pepper, with a silky texture and exceptionally persistent finish. Production was strictly limited to just 1,500 bottles worldwide, making this a genuinely scarce commemorative Port. Of particular interest, Taylor’s stated that only 500 bottles were allocated to the Portuguese domestic market. The wine is presented in Taylor’s distinctive frosted black Aged Tawny bottle bearing the official King Charles III Coronation emblem, accompanied by its impressive original beechwood presentation case. This is not simply commemorative packaging around a standard Taylor’s Tawny. The wine itself was specifically assembled from some of the house’s most precious old reserves for this historic release. A highly collectible union of British royal history and more than three centuries of Taylor’s Port-making heritage - produced only once, for one of the defining ceremonial events of the 21st century.
