An excellent mature Napa Valley Merlot from Duckhorn Vineyards, one of the California producers most closely associated with premium Merlot. Duckhorn has championed the variety since its first Merlot release from the 1978 vintage. The 2019 Napa Valley Merlot is a blend of 90% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Sauvignon, 1% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot, matured for 15 months in 100% French oak, 40% new and 60% neutral. Rich and polished, the 2019 offers ripe cherry and black plum aromas followed by layers of blackcurrant, blueberry, fig, red licorice and floral notes. Fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity carry the wine through a long, elegant finish.
