Júlio B. Bastos Alicante Bouschet 2018 An exceptional single-varietal Alicante Bouschet from Júlio Bastos and Quinta de Dona Maria, in Portugal’s Alentejo. Created as a tribute to Júlio Bandeira Bastos, this prestigious cuvée showcases the remarkable depth and character that Alicante Bouschet can achieve in the region. Produced from carefully selected grapes and traditionally foot-trodden in marble lagares, the wine is matured in French oak, resulting in a powerful yet refined expression. Deep and concentrated, it reveals layers of ripe black fruit, wild berries, liquorice, spice and balsamic notes, complemented by subtle oak and beautifully structured tannins. The 2018 vintage received 94 points from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate and was produced in a limited quantity of approximately 5,000 bottles, making it a particularly desirable expression from one of Alentejo’s most respected producers.

André Bicho
Raised in Portugal and educated in the United States, André has spent two decades moving between cultures, languages and cellars. His passion for fine wine and spirits began with the great Ports and table wines of his home country and grew into a wider fascination with the craft, history and provenance behind every great bottle. When he isn’t tasting or sourcing, he can be found driving the back roads of Europe in search of small producers and the stories behind their labels.
