Quinta Vale Meao · Douro, Portugal · 750 ml
An expert physically inspected this bottle before approving the listing.
One of Portugal’s benchmark fine wines, produced at the historic Quinta do Vale Meão in the Douro Superior by the Olazabal family. The estate traces its origins to Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, one of the defining figures in the history of the Douro. The 2020 flagship red is based predominantly on Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca, complemented by Tinta Barroca and Tinta Roriz. The grapes were vinified separately, including traditional foot-treading in granite lagares, before maturation in French oak. It is a deeply concentrated yet refined Douro red, combining floral aromas with red and dark wild fruits, considerable structure, freshness and an exceptionally long, complex finish. The concentration and tannic structure give the 2020 excellent long-term cellaring potential. Most importantly, Wine Enthusiast awarded the 2020 a perfect 100/100, while Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate awarded 97/100, James Suckling 96/100 and Wine Spectator 95/100.

André Bicho
Raised in Portugal and educated in the United States, André has spent two decades moving between cultures, languages and cellars. His passion for fine wine and spirits began with the great Ports and table wines of his home country and grew into a wider fascination with the craft, history and provenance behind every great bottle. When he isn’t tasting or sourcing, he can be found driving the back roads of Europe in search of small producers and the stories behind their labels.
