Palácio da Brejoeira is one of the historic names associated with Alvarinho from Monção e Melgaço, the northernmost sub-region of Portugal’s Vinho Verde appellation. Produced and bottled at Palácio da Brejoeira in Monção, this wine is made from 100% Alvarinho, a variety particularly associated with the granitic soils and Atlantic-influenced climate of the region. The estate surrounds the celebrated early-19th-century Palácio da Brejoeira, classified as a National Monument, and its Alvarinho has become one of the classic premium expressions of the Monção e Melgaço terroir. The wine typically combines citrus and stone fruit, floral and mineral notes, with the freshness and acidity characteristic of Alvarinho. With bottle age, good examples can develop more complex notes of honey, dried fruit and petrol/mineral nuances.
