Quinta do Salvante Dona Alicinha Grande Reserva 2020 – Vinhas Velhas – DOC Trás-os-Montes

Dona Alicinha Grande Reserva 2020 is a flagship old-vine red from Quinta do Salvante, in Valpaços, Trás-os-Montes, created as a tribute to family matriarch Alice do Nascimento Teixeira. The estate’s history dates to 1912, when vines were planted at Quinta do Salvante. The Dona Alicinha vineyard contains vines of different ages, including old plantings, and the wine is a field blend from Vinhas Velhas, with Tinta Amarela and Bastardo predominating. The 2020 was matured for 12 months in French-oak barrels followed by 12 months in bottle. It is a powerful 16% ABV red, showing ripe fresh fruit, compote, spice, balanced acidity, smooth tannins and a long finish. It also has genuine competition credentials: the 2020 received Gold at the 2024 Portugal Wine Trophy, and also Gold with 93.84 points at the 2024 VinDuero/VinDouro awards.
