One of the benchmark wines of the Douro and one of Portugal’s most collectible modern reds, Quinta do Vale Meão is produced from the historic estate established by Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira in the Douro Superior. The 2016 is a particularly acclaimed vintage. It is built primarily around Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca, complemented by traditional Douro varieties, and matured in French oak. The wine combines concentrated dark fruit with spice, minerality, powerful structure and a remarkably long finish. The vintage received 98 points from Wine Enthusiast, which described its combination of power, tannin, dark fruit and mineral character, while Wine Advocate and Wine Spectator both awarded it 96 points. At ten years from harvest, the 2016 is now entering an especially interesting stage of its development while retaining substantial ageing potential.
