Casa Ferreirinha Barca Velha · Douro, Portugal · 750 ml
An expert physically inspected this bottle before approving the listing.
Barca-Velha is Portugal’s most iconic still wine and one of the country’s most collectible fine wines. First produced in 1952 by Fernando Nicolau de Almeida, it is only released in vintages that meet exceptionally high standards. Because of this strict selection, many years are skipped, making each release highly sought after by collectors. The 2011 vintage is regarded as one of the finest modern releases. Produced from old vineyards in the Upper Douro, it is a blend of traditional Portuguese grape varieties, including Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, and Tinto Cão. It offers remarkable concentration, elegance, and structure, with aromas of black fruits, violets, cedar, graphite, and spices. It has outstanding ageing potential, with many experts expecting it to evolve beautifully for several decades.

André Bicho
Raised in Portugal and educated in the United States, André has spent two decades moving between cultures, languages and cellars. His passion for fine wine and spirits began with the great Ports and table wines of his home country and grew into a wider fascination with the craft, history and provenance behind every great bottle. When he isn’t tasting or sourcing, he can be found driving the back roads of Europe in search of small producers and the stories behind their labels.
