Legado 2021 – Douro DOP | Sogrape Legado represents the pinnacle of Sogrape’s Douro winemaking and is one of the house’s most exclusive red wines. Created in 2008 by Fernando Guedes as a tribute to his family’s heritage, it originates from the extraordinary Vinha Velha of Quinta do Caêdo, in Ervedosa do Douro. The vineyard comprises just under eight hectares of steep Douro terraces, planted with more than 25 traditional grape varieties in a historic field blend. This remarkable old vineyard preserves an increasingly rare piece of the Douro’s viticultural heritage. Under winemaker Luís de Sottomayor, the 2021 vintage delivers exceptional complexity and elegance. Aromas of rockrose, heather and vibrant red fruits are joined by pepper and clove, subtle minerality and beautifully integrated oak. The palate is concentrated and structured, with firm tannins, vibrant acidity and a remarkably long, elegant finish. Sogrape considers it a wine built for prolonged ageing. Production is exceptionally small: only 1,896 bottles of 75cl are reported for the 2021 release, making this a genuinely scarce Portuguese collector’s wine.
