J.H. Andresen Colheita 1900 – Bottled 1988 – 2 × 75cl

An exceptional matched pair of J.H. Andresen Colheita 1900 Port, originating from the historic 1900 harvest and bottled in 1988, after approximately 88 years of maturation in wood. Produced by J.H. Andresen, the historic Port house established in 1845, this remarkable Colheita represents the traditional art of prolonged cask ageing. Unlike Vintage Port, which spends most of its life developing in bottle, a Colheita is a wine from a single harvest that matures for an extended period in wooden casks before bottling. The extraordinary length of maturation of this 1900 release—nearly nine decades before bottling—would have allowed the wine to develop the profound complexity associated with exceptionally old Colheita Ports: concentrated dried fruits, walnuts and other nuts, caramelised notes, coffee, spice, old wood and oxidative nuances, balanced by the freshness and acidity that allow great aged Tawny Ports to retain remarkable vitality. Both 75cl bottles retain their original J.H. Andresen labels and blue capsules together with their individually numbered Instituto do Vinho do Porto guarantee seals. The labels clearly state “Engarrafado em 1988” (Bottled in 1988). The bottles also display notably strong fill levels and attractive overall presentation considering the age of the wine.
