Monte da Peceguina Tinto 2023 is produced by the prestigious Herdade da Malhadinha Nova in Albernoa, in Portugal’s Alentejo. The estate was acquired by the Soares family in 1998 and developed into one of the region’s best-known contemporary wine estates. Monte da Peceguina represents an accessible expression of the Malhadinha style, combining ripe Alentejo fruit with freshness, structure and careful oak maturation. For the 2023 vintage, grapes from the Malhadinha, Peceguina and Terges vineyards were harvested manually during August and September. According to your bottle, the blend comprises Alicante Bouschet, Aragonez, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Syrah. Fermentation took place in lagares and stainless-steel truncated-conical vats, followed by nine months’ maturation in 225-litre French oak barrels. The producer describes the 2023 as deep purple in colour, with expressive red and wild-berry aromas accompanied by floral notes. On the palate it retains its fruit character, with good structure, freshness and mature, balanced tannins, as well as good potential for bottle development. The 1.5L Magnum format is particularly attractive for cellaring, entertaining or gifting, and your example includes the original Herdade da Malhadinha Nova presentation box.
