A superb Quinta das Carvalhas Vintage Port 2018, produced from selected old-vine parcels at one of the historic estates of the Douro Valley. The 2018 Vintage was made from an old-vines field blend, with the grapes selectively hand-harvested and traditionally foot-trodden in granite lagares. Following fortification, the wine matured for approximately two years in oak vats before bottling. Production was extremely limited: the producer’s technical documentation records just 8,933 bottles of 750ml. The wine has received significant critical recognition. Wine Enthusiast awarded it 94 points, describing a perfumed, structured Port with dried-fruit and fresh-plum character and recommending drinking from 2030. The producer describes the 2018 as concentrated and complex, combining wild berries, rockrose and ripe liquorice with freshness, depth and a long finish. This example retains its capsule and numbered Instituto dos Vinhos do Douro e Porto guarantee seal (No. 879728). The bottle shown appears very clean, with excellent label presentation and intact closure.
